Testimonials

Alex was born with a unique rare chromosome abnormality, resulting in severe learning difficulties and physical issues, including heart problems, scoliosis, finger and walking difficulties.

Fortunately he has a happy disposition, enjoying life. His hobbies include radio controlled trains and model boats.

Opportunities for outdoor activities are limited.

However, thanks to the brilliant team of volunteers at Westbere Sailing Opportunities, an RYA Sailability site, Alex has learnt to sail.

After years as a passive crew member, he was finally persuaded to take the helm. This has given him a tremendous sense of achievement.

Sailing at the beautiful Westbere Lake provides excitement, fresh air and emotional rewards.

Hi Alan and all the crew that were at Westbere Lake today.

It was really great to have the opportunity to sail again, as I have not sailed for a long time and this is the first time I have sailed being totally blind.

Everyone there was so calm and friendly, I'm not phased by my lack of vision and all the instruction I received from Gordon, who was in the boat with me today, was really helpful and gave me an excellent idea of what was going on and what I needed to do.

So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone that I met today, to make it such a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

I am looking forward to the next opportunity that I have for a sail and would recommend that to any of my friends or family without any hesitation whatsoever.

Kind regards, Brian Tutty
